Review

I was very intimidated with this book and because of it, it ended up on my TBR for a really long time. I knew that this book was a tragic love story but I was surprised at what occured in this book. I first thought that it was a love story with Heathcliff and Catherine, that throughout the book it was a love story and it would end with them apart but I was so surprised that it was death that drove them apart. (Like Romeo and Juliet)

I will say this that all the characters in this book are very unlikable, they each have strong opinions, their own morals and selfishness that made these characters so inhuman. I honestly felt that there was no decent character that I liked. Catherine was a winy child who would cry and moan if she didn’t get her way, her older brother Hindley would get angry over everything and anything. And Heathcliff was mistreated by the people that gave him a home that he became an ungrateful ass to everyone.

Heathcliff and Catherine were the worst together. I can hardly accept that what they felt for one another was love, it felt abussive and an obsessive. Their last scene together was like watching a really cheesy, over the top scene in a really crappy tv show, one person says somthing in the most overdramatic romantic way and then get angry and frustrated in which it results in one person leaving the room, leaving the over one sobbing uncontrollably. And then in the second half of the book was almost history repeated with the children of Heathcliff and Catherine. (I hope that makes any sense.)

I would have to say that while this book was something that I have always wanted to tick off my TBR and if I read this book years ago, I probably would have loved it or respected Emily Bronte’s work. It was a very interesting to see how this book unfolded and see how Emily Bronte developed these characters from childhood to adulthood. If you ask me if I want to read it again, it would be a strong no, I cannot see the fascination of this book, I expected to enjoy it but instead it wasn’t a classic that I would consider the best.
