Hope you are well.

I am kind of getting back into the groove of reading again, it seems that every September my mood to read slows down. I haven’t been purchasing many books lately, mostly because I spend my money on yarn to crochet. I am in the middle of two projects, they are both blankets, it’s really fun to crochet and I can have something in the background like a TV show or an audibook.

Since it is offically Autumn and nearing to spoopy time, I thought I would recommend books that would fit perfectly in this season. I hope you like it.

Omens by Kelley Armstrong

I adore this series so much that if you look at the photo very carefully you can see the sticky tabs that I used to annotate it last year.

This series follows a woman named Olivia, she has grown up in a big house, engaged to man who is going into polotics only for her life to turn topside when she discovers that she was adopted and her biological parents are in prison for manslaughter. Olivia runs away from the press and Chicago, and finds herself in Cainsville. The locals seem to like her, except for her landlord, she meets a man named Gaberial, who is her biological mother’s lawyer.

This book is just filled with mystery, suspence and later on folklore. The town Cainsville is filled with fae and an old tale about Mallt-y-Nos also known as Matilda of the Night. I don’t want to spoil anything about this book because I think you need to experience this yourself.

The bear and the nightingale

I already wrote a review for this book (see here). This is a really good book to read while under the covers, with a hot mug of hot chocolate and marshmellows. Of course the book is set in the Winter time but it still a good book to lead into Winter.

This books follows a young woman, Vasilisa, who follows the love and respect of the old Russian Folklore, but a priest enters into her families home and tries to convert people into following the new religion. Vasilisa discover and old powerful god has intentions of harming her home and she is determined to protect it.

daisy JOnes and the six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I think it would be a crime to not include this book. While the book is an inspiration to Fleetwood Mac, I think since Fleetwood Mac is witch territory, then this book has to be Autumnal. The colour scheme of both the hardback and paperback fits so well.

This is a documental novel about a fictional band forming together and ending after one year. The book is filled with music, drugs, alcohol and friendship. I do recommend listening to this book on audio because the audio makes it feel like a podcast/documentary. Reliving their moments as the band, through frustrations and fights, emotional connections and even embracing the love of their fans.

Runemarks by JOanne M. Harris

Norse Mythology, magic, mystery and adventure. What more could you want? I have read this book twice and I re-read the book it felt so different to what I remembered. There were moments where I guessed who certain characters were and left me completly surprised as to who they were. This book just fits soo well.

This book follows a young girl who isn’t very liked in her town because of the strange marks on her body. She encounters and old man who asks her to help him with a quest. She takes on the quest a discovers something that will give her a better understanding as to where she is from and what those marks really mean.

The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter by Theodora Goss

Do you like retellings? Do you like a retelling of Sherlok Holmes, Dr Hyde and Mr Jekyl, Frankenstein, Dracula or any Victorian literature character? This book is perfect for you.

Set in Victorian London, this book follows Mary Jekyl a woman who has lost her mother due to sickness has to keep the house a float or otherwise she will lose her home. She encounters a woman named Diana and discover that they are sisters because Diana is Dr Hyde is his daughter. Soon later they discover that there is a secert organisation that could effectifly harm people.

This book is a genius way to unite Classic Victorian characters into one single universe. You meet the daughters of those characters and how they find a way to stop them and also document the stories of The Athena Club.

Death or Ice Cream? by Gareth P. Jones

What would you choose?

I discovered this book years ago in my early twenties (I can’t believe I just typed that), I saw this book in a book haul or something on Youtube and the title really attracted to me. This book is a collection of stories set in a fictional town called Larkin Mills, each story is different; For example, the creation of the town, a mysterious house that you can only enter in from the roof or an anecdote that made you forget that you were going to be experimented on. Each story is connected some way or another and each of the stories get a little bit darker than the one before.

I hope you liked this post, I certainly enjoyed going through the books that I have already read and not my TBR. Hopefully I will come back with some books ticked off my list but we shall see.
