Hey everyone,
This month of reading has been great and I am so surprised as to how many books that I have already read at the beginning ogf the year. Usually, Janurary is never the best month for reading sometimes I would call it “the bad pancake” as it is the first month of the year and the first pancake doesn’t go so well. But somehow this month, I manage to read 9 books which I have to say is a trimph.

The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry

I have already written a full review of this book, so if you are interested my review is here.

Orfeia by Joanne M. Harris

I’ve read a few of Harris’s work for a while, mostly in her fantasy work than her literature work. I bought this book with a curious mind as to what the story is about.
The book follows a mother who has lost her child and husband, she then falls into the fairy world and sets out on a journey through the realms to find her daughter and take her back home. This book has some beautiful illustrations by Bonnie Helen Hawkins.
I gave this book 3 stars because the plot was very interesting and magical, I felt my motivation to be slow. I really liked the descriptions of the realms and the characters, this book felt more of a children’s book than an adult book.

Wotakoi: Love is hard for Otaku by Fujita Vol 4
πππππ
I have been waiting for this book for almost a year, I tried to order it over a year ago but Amazon kept delaying the publishing date which annoyed me and I just ended up canceling it.
This was an adorable story, a group of friends who each are secret otaku of games, manga and cosplaying. I love the series so much that I read this volume in a day.

Scared to Death by Kate Medina
πππ.5
I have already done a review of this book, if your are interested my review is here

Blood of Elves by Andrej Sapkowski
ππππ
I have been needing to complete this series and I am determined to finish it in 2021. I want to do a full review of the series when I get to finish the rest of the series.
I just want to say, this is a very interesting and strong way to start the series, bare that in mind the prequels were actually written after the completion of the series, so technically this was the first book that came out. I am really liking the characters so far, if you’ve read the prequels you are already aware of the connections, I found the first couple of chapters to be really interesting, especially about Ciri and her abilities. I enjoyed seeing the relationship that Ciri has with the other Witchers as well as the sisterly bond that she has with Triss and the motherly relationship with Yennefer. I am very intrigued when I continue with the series.

The Duke and I/ The Viscount Who Loved Me/ An Offer From A Gentleman & Romancing Mr Bridgerton by Julia Quinn
ππππ (All four books)
Has anyone seen Bridgerton and loved it? Urm I did.
I first heard about it through TikTok when I kept seeing video of people making or dueting Bridgerton the Musical. So I looked it up on Netflix and thought I would give it a go. I have read quite a few Regency Romance novels and I do enjoy the smutty scandalous take of the romance in regency era, I never thought that it would ever be interpreted into a TV show. So after finishing watching the show, I bought the first book in the series on my kindle and started to read it.
Look I’ll admit that this is the genre of my guilty pleasure and I am really liking the series so far but I will have to say that there are some very problematic stuff in this book. I think the first book is not the best and it is very problematic itself, there are still some very good moments. I will have to mention, while you were expecting something that you have seen from the TV show, it’s not even there it was mostly changed from the production value than from Quinn herself.
There is someone on Youtube that really explains it a lot more clearer, his name is Jack Edwards, he has done a hilarious take of the first book. I highly recommend it.

I’m currently reading The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson and I am really enjoying it. Not only that, I got myself a library card and picked up a couple of books that I reserved.
I hope you are having a lovely day, stay safe
Happy Reading xx
