Audiobook Recommendations

Hey everyone,

Hope you have had a good week.

Throughout 2021, I have been using audiobooks to help me get through some big books that I picked out to read and I noticed that I have not done a audiobook recommendations post. So why not now.

I hope you like this post, it was so much fun to write up. What books would you suggest to read that should be listened to?

Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

If you have not read this book, then you need to stop what you are doing. Grab your phone, get the book on audiobook and listen to it while continuing your task of the day.

This book felt so real when I started to listen to it. It felt like a music documentary but for a radio, the stories portrayed by many characters was so much fun to learn and listen. You have a strong love for each character, each experiencing something different but in the closed doors of a recodring studio or a bus or even on stage. The fantasticly ability to the amazing work on the audiobook was the amazind ensemble cast that brought this book alive.

Also, the tv show is coming out this year. 12 episodes! Can you tell I am excited?

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Another TJR reccomendation.

I love that this book is getting a resurgence on Tiktok, I keep seeing it everywhere and I am happy to say that I listened to the audiobook when it first came out. This was such a great story telling and it had sucha twist that I wasn’t even suspecting. Somehow the last couple of chapters felt very heavy and the narrator did a fantastic job into building an intense moment that has never been forgotten.

The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly

I have tried to read this book muiltiple times but I am really happy to call it one of the greats after listening to the audiobook. It is about a boy who doesn’t like the change in his family life and despises his newer sibling and it is not until he is lost in a fantasy work of dark fairytales and has to find his way back home.

The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R. R. Tolkien

If you haven’t been following this blog for the past couple of months, then you don’t know. I listened to the audiobooks of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy at the end of Summer to the beginning of Autumn and I loved it so much. I have constantly been gushing over this audiobook to so many people because Andy Serkis, an amazing actor who more known for his voice work and has specificly been part of the movies, narrates these four books and I loved it. So much fun, if you are a fan of TLOTR I highly recommend listening to this audiobook.

Where Am I Now by Mara Wilson

I listened to this audiobook years ago, and it was such a great listen. Mara Wilson was more famous with her work as a child actress with roles such as Matilda, Miracle at 34th Street and Mrs Doubtfire. This book is her recounting her experience as a child actor, it’s crazy how she went through in her life, meeting people from such a young age and seeing them again once she is older. There was a chapter about Robin Williams, which has stuck to me ever since, on how what she remembers of him when she was a little girl to when she reunites with him again in University and seeing him as a person and not as the famous Robin Williams. There is even a chapter that she wrote on her blog which I highly suggest you read.

Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy

A lot of the time, I am using audiobook to help me read Classics. I feel it to be quite intimidating when first picking up a classic and an audiobook is very helpful.

It has been a while since I read Far From the Maddening Crowd but I remember enjoying the story, the characters and the crazyness that is Hardy’s writing.

The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

When I started reading this book, I was very confused and couldn’t understand much of what happened, I found the audiobook to be a great strory. I would highly get the one narrated by Stephan Fry (book 1) and Martin Freeman (book 2) as it was such enjoyment to listen to. I only got the audiobook for the first two parts of the five part book.

I did write up a review for this book years ago, if you want to have a quick read. (review here) Don’t Panic.
