A Break For Now

Hey Everyone,

Hope you are well.

So at the moment I have now hit a rock (not literally but just stuck).

My laptop has crashed and it will be difficult to upload weekly. So instead of doing it through my phone. I am just going to take some time off and sort out the laptop situation and be able to get back to posting book reviews.

I am going to save some money and buy a new laptop around Christmas time so that is how late I am going to be gone for. But if you are curious about what I am reading and stuff you can mostly follow me on Instagram, you can find me under stephanienburton

Or you can follow me on Twitter, StephanieNBurto.

Hopefully, I will be back soon but until then.

Happy Reading ✨🎃

A Room With A View by E.M.Forester

Lucy has her rigid, middle-class life mapped out for her until she visits Florence with her uptight cousin Charlotte, and finds her neatly ordered existence thrown off balance. Her eyes are opened by the unconventional characters she meets at the Pension Bertolini: flamboyant romantic novelist Eleanor Lavish, the Cockney Signora, curious Mr Emerson and, most of all, his passionate son George.

Lucy finds herself torn between the intensity of life in Italy and the repressed morals of Edwardian England, personified in her terminally dull fiancĂŠ Cecil Vyse. Will she ever learn to follow her own heart?

Review

I read this book in a day, recently I have been trying to attempt to read for 24 hours but I have been doing it gradually because I tend to get distracted a lot. But I spent a day reading this book and I thought the book was pretty good, just not for me.

I was frustrated with the main character, Lucy. Lucy is this young woman who follows along the rules of society like everyone else but she is interested in the big wide world, or window, and during her trip around Italy she opens herself up to see the beauty of the country, the people and even the locals. Lucy struggles to decide as to how to choose to love either her head by following her mother and other family member’s wishes or follow her heart and choose love. Honestly, I wished that it didn’t have to take Lucy until the final chapter to decide. She mentions a lot about being selfish and the choice of who to go for and it frustrated me.

I don’t really have much to say. This book was good, the storytelling was good, the characters were funny and there was a large window.

Although I did find it funny how I immediately thought back to Gilmore Girls (I always think about Gilmore Girls) when Rory comes home from her European trip with Emily in Season 5 and Rory decided to show Lorelai home videos which turned out to be A Room With A View with Helen Bonam-Carter and Maggie Smith.

Happy Reading xx

Reading Habits Book Tag

Hey Everyone,

I thought of doing a book tag this week since I have been doing a lot of book reviews. I found this tag a couple of weeks ago and since I don’t think anybody tagged me, I am just going to do it out of sheer fun. It’s also a good opportunity for you to get to know me, I have been blogging for almost 4 years now but I converted to WordPress at the beginning of the year so you have no clue about me. I hope this tag gives you a bit of an idea of who I am.

The tag was originally made by somebody called The Book Jazz on Youtube but it has now been deleted. I found the tag on The Bibliophile Girl’s blog

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I tend to read mostly in my bed, but I do enjoy reading my books on the sofa in the living room whenever I get bored of my bedroom.

Bookmark or random piece of paper

I have quite a bit of a collection of bookmarks but my go to bookmark is an old train ticket.

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?

I kind of do both. Sometimes when I am reading a book and I am really enjoying it I would always stop at the end of the chapter. But when it is a book that I have started and unsure of, I would stop whenever I feel like it.

Do you eat or drink whilst reading?

I always have a snack while I am reading a book, my go-to is a bag of popcorn and a bottle of Pepsi Max. But if I am feeling a bit splurgy I would get a tub of Ben and Jerry’s.

Multitasking: Music or TV whilst reading?

I can’t read in silence, I find it too quiet. I have recently gotten into listening to thunderstorm sounds, I found myself focusing a lot more while listening to sound effects, you should check out ZHAANTI. I used to listen to music while reading when I was younger but I decided to stop because every time I listen to the song 369 by Cupid feat B.O.B. I think of Twilight because I listened to the entire soundtrack while reading the book.

One book at a time or several?

I find reading one book at a time can drag for such a long time, I like to read more than one so then I can just jump to another book if I feel like, like Rory Gilmore.

Reading at home or everywhere?

Mostly home but I do tend my time reading books on the bus to work, in the coffee shop and even in the garden.

Read out loud or silently in your head?

Silently in my head mostly, occasionally I would read it out loud it is mostly because I didn’t read it properly, so I would go back and read it again.

Do you read ahead or skip pages?

It’s an old habit of mine to read the last page of the book because most of the time I have no clue what is going on. I think I did it because I wanted the book to have a happy ending. But most of the time I am very confused with the ending and I understand it a bit more when I finish the book.

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I like to keep my books in nice condition, there may be a few dents here and there but it comes from the love and care I give to that book.

Do you annotate in your books?

I am getting into the idea of annotating my books, so far I enjoy tabbing them and underline passages that I really like in pencil but I am not that fearless with a pen just yet, baby steps.

P.S. I have another blog post uploading tomorrow, it’s not going to be another book review. It’s going to be something that  I have been wanting to inlude in my blogging life. Enjoy xx

Multiple Copies Of Books That I Own

Hey Everyone,

If you are a book lover or you just somehow found this page it is very common to see book lovers with multiple copies of their favourite books. I am one of those. I have quite a few books that I have multiple copies of and I thought about sharing them with you. It is not something that intentionally does some of the time it is because it has coloured pages or it’s signed by the author. Sometimes it is because I want to have the book because of the cover and sometimes it is because I want the book instead of waiting for a year for the book to be released in paperback.

2018-04-08 081245291682..jpg

I remember seeing the cover and thinking that it was beautiful. I was mostly intrigue is getting the book because of Kerby Rosanes the illustrator who designed the cover. I love the look of the crow. I was attracted to the book because of Instagram and the fact that when you take the dust jacket off it has a beautiful design of the crow across the hardback and I love it. I may have the hardback and paperback edition but I know that I am not going to let go either of them, I also want to clarify that I haven’t got Godsgrave yet because I have still yet to read Nevernight.

This is the reason why I decided to do this blog post because not only do I own the UK edition of the Shades of Magic series, I recently was tempted to get the US editions. It was the US edition which drew me to the series and I wished the UK edition would at least like its counterpart. I have to admit that I am not too keen on the UK editions and I was always jealous of seeing the US editions featuring in the Booktubers that I watch and wishing that I had them. They were on Book Depository and I couldn’t resist the temptation to get them. I am considering in starting the series again because of getting the US editions.

Yes, I also got the collectors editions. DON’T JUDGE ME. But can you agree with me and say that they are both beautiful books.

2018-04-08 082090799665..jpg

I have no shame in getting these books because this is one of my all-time favourite books. I read the book when I was still in college and I couldn’t leave it alone. I highly recommend this book to any because it is not the type of book to rush over, it’s paced very well, you get to learn about the characters. It’s dark thriller book that could get you on the edge of your seat.

2018-04-08 08744346008..jpg

I think you already know about this book because I couldn’t stop gushing over it in my review. I got the hardback book last year and I was mostly attracted to the beautiful moth on the cover (also it is signed my Laini Taylor) I love both books and I will probably do the same thing for Muse of Nightmares when it comes out.

2018-04-08 08152762847..jpg

I got the Collins edition years ago when I was still working at my first job which was 5 years ago and it’s strange to think it has been that long. I am also a little obsessed with the Penguin English Library editions mostly because of the beautiful covers. I have yet to pick this book up but I am unsure about reading it since I know what happens towards the end of the book (I can’t remember where or when I found out).

2018-04-08 08116529385..jpg

Similar scenario with another Bronte. I got the clothbound edition at the end of 2016 with my Christmas money that I got and I was tempted to get the Penguin English Library edition because I wanted all the Bronte sisters to be together and be similar in editions instead of a mixture.

2018-04-08 081176481277..jpg

I haven’t told how much I love the Millenium trilogy by Steig Larsson and I even got obsessed with the continuation of the series by David Lagercrantz. I have only read The Girl in the Spider’s Web, I have yet to pick up The Girl Who Takes An Eye For An Eye. I got the larger paperback copy of TGITS’SW in Thailand 3 years ago, a couple days after it was released. I have even kept the price sticker on the back of the book.

2018-04-08 081807582579..jpg

It is no surprise to me that I would have a few extra copies of Austen’s books. My most favourite one would have to be the Vintage Classics, they are really cute and very easy to hold while reading. I did get myself the anniversary edition of Persuasion because I really liked the cover and also I even got it from Amazon.com and not co.uk so it took about a couple of weeks to come to me.

I hope you are having a lovely day.

Book Review | Strange The Dreamer by Laini Taylor

Hey Everyone,

How are you?

I have an amazing book to gush about today. But AHHH! It’s snowing outside and I am loving it ( I am writing this the day before just in case you were curious). Recently I have been a little obsessed with watching 24-hour read-a-thons more specifically Zoe by ReadbyZoe. I am just amazed that she was able to read It by Stephan King during the whole video. I am interested in taking part in her next one but I’ll have to see if I am free from work to do it.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

The Dream Chooses The Dreamer

Then a stunning opportunity presents itself – in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors – and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever.

What happened in Weep to cut it off from the world? What did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?

The answers await in Weep, but so do many more mysterious – including the blue-skinned goddess who visits Lazlo’s dreams…

Review

Lazlo Strange has always grown up in the Library and being fascinated with a town called Weep or the Stolen City. He believes in magic and monsters, he recites fairytales but they are only in his interpretation. I found Lazlo to be like myself, always head in the clouds and a nose in his book. His deep passionate fascination of Weep makes everyone around him think that its silly. And yet a chance encounter with the Godslayer and an opportunity to stand beside this hero that he has known in books but also visit the town that he has dreamt of for years.

My first interpretation of this book was that I though Lazlo has the ability to go into peoples dreams, I think the title just threw me a bit. But it is more about this dreamer who learns that not all stories from books are the truth. The introduction to the blue-skinned people really intrigued me, you have Sarai who has an amazing ability involving moths which I am considering of getting a tattoo of and the rest of the other blue-skinned people with all their abilities which I have to say is a breath of fresh air when you learn about their skills.

I remember reading Daughter of Smoke and Bone two years ago loving the writing and the world building and yet again Laini does a fantastic job. Her style of writing is amazing and very enticing, she is someone that gives a new look to fantasy compared to many other authors. I am even more excited for the next book in this duology.

I love how this book is created, I want to find a way to jump into this world and explore more like Lazlo, I loved learning more about the history of Weep how it became to be known as and also learning about Sarai and her friends, and why the world justice is perceived in different ways (I don’t want to go into more detail of Sarai because it is really major spoilers – if you have read the book you cane message me through my social medias and freak out together about that ending. IT CAN’T END THAT WAY!)

I don’t do predictions of books in the series because I am just excited to just get into the book and not expecting anything because that might ruin the book for me. I am excited for the next one and I hope that Laini will release another series soon.

I hope you are having a lovely day
