Hope you are good.
So I am back with my wrap-up of November. I have already done a recent reads post that I did read in November (previous blog here) but that was half way in the month and I wanted to do another post for the other half of November. Most of the books here were read during the two week period of TomeTopple which started on the 14th to the 27th.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling
So I listened to the audiobook for this and really enjoyed it, Chamber of Secrets is one of those movies/book that I don’t really need to read over and over again because I know it so well. The first two movies do a really good job of bringing the book to screen, I really enjoyed listening to the book, it’s not my favourite in the series but of course as you get through the series the plot is very vital in the future.
Fullmetal Alchemist Vol 7-9 by Hiromu Arakawa
It’s been a year since I read the last vol and it was great to jump back in, this book introduced more characters and gave more of development to Ed and Al. I love these brothers so much and I really liked that Al had more of a storyline in this volume. I was not expecting that twist with one character but I am looking forward to see more development with every character. I am planning to buy the rest of the series so I don’t have an excuse to not pick up the series and I would really like to finish a complete Manga series.
His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
I have been wanting to read this series for years and I can finally say that I have read it. I picked up this book in September and read/listened to the first book, Northern Lights. I knew much of the first book as I had previously read it before but it was a long time ago when I read it. I enjoyed the audiobooks, Philip was the narrator and it made me enjoy this book even more.
Out of the three books I found The Amber Glass to be my favourite, I can’t explain why but I always tend to favor the final book in series because it makes the book feel complete and TAG did that. I loved travelling with Lyra and Will, I enjoyed how much they went through together but one of the things that I really would have liked to have seen was a small reunion of Lyra and her parents, I personnally don’t like Lord Asriel and Mrs Coulter but I would have liked to have seen some inking of a family reunion.
Illuminae by Amy Kauffman and Jay Kristoff
I had been wanting to pick up this book because I had heard really positive opinions of this book but the reason why I didn’t pick it up before is because I am not a fan of YA or Dystopian, I stopped reading books from that genre years ago. But I wanted to pick this book up.
I really liked the book, I liked how most of it was logged conversation and also description reports from security cameras. At first I didn’t really know how I felt towards reading the book but I found the conversation between Kady and AIDAN to be the most interesting, I liked the conversation and the development, I liked that it focused more of Kady while Ezra is an important factor as to why Kady does those things I didn’t like how lovey dovey Ezra was and it made him look really sappy.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
So this was the final book that I read for TomeTopple and I finished it at 5am, you would think that finishing the book at 5am would consider a good thing. The only good thing about this book was the premise and the character of Addie.
Personally I’m not sure that I loved this book, I enjoyed it don’t get me wrong. But I wouldn’t pick this book as a favourite. Victoria Schawb is a brilliant writer and I love her Shades of Magic trilogy, this book felt kept reminding me of a KDrama especially the ending. I did write a review on Goodreads, if you want to see more of my opinion (note: it does include spoilers).
And that concludes the remaining month of November. I feel like after a readathon I have more ambition to read and it felt great to get excited to read and not spend so much time on my laptop.
I hope you are having a great day
Happy Reading xx
